Ibiza Airport Car Parks

Ibiza Airport is the main gateway to the islands of Ibiza and Formentera, which are two of Spain’s Balearic Islands, in the Mediterranean. Although Ibiza is not as large as the island of Palma de Mallorca, it is a very popular holiday destination, and the airport is busy during the summer months, when hordes of youngsters and international tourists come to enjoy the beaches and nightclubs for which the island is famous. The airport handles just over 8 million passengers per year, and is a hub for the airline company Vueling. Facilities on site are more than adequate, and a number of parking spaces are available as well. However, parking at the airport can get crowded.

Motorists driving their own vehicle to the airport will use the PM-801 motorway, or the Ibiza-Airport motorway, as this road provides the main access route. It can also be referred to as the E-20 motorway. Passengers from the San José area, which is very nearby the airport, will use the PM-803 road, or Ibiza-San José motorway in order to reach the PM-801. When leaving the PM-803, make use of the Kilometer 4 Exit. Signposts are available, and may indicate ‘Aeropuerto De Ibiza’. Although the roads to the airport are not usually very heavy on traffic, always leave sufficient time for unexpected road incidents, and to find an adequate parking space at Ibiza Airport. The journey from Ibiza Town will take approximately twenty minutes, as the airport is located only 7 km, or 3.4 miles from this main point on the island.

Although parking at the airport is provided, motorists sometimes find the parking lot to be a bit small, especially during the busier summer months of Ibiza, when there are literally thousands more people on the island. The parking area has a total of about 500 spaces, and is located directly outside the terminal building. The airport consists of just a single passenger terminal, which is dedicated to arrival and departure flights of both a domestic and international nature, and the airport operations are carried out over two levels. The ground floor is mainly used for arrivals, check-in procedures and the sale of airline tickets, while the first floor level is for departures and all boarding procedures. Once arriving at the parking area, it is a very quick walk to the terminal; therefore there is no need for any further transportation, such as a shuttle bus, in order to reach the check-in areas.

The parking area at Ibiza Airport is not really divided into short or long-term areas, but can be used by all passengers, regardless of for how long their vehicle will need to stay. However, motorists who would simply like to drop off departing passengers, or collect arriving passengers, can make use of the couple of parking spaces available directly in front of the terminal building. These spaces may only be used for a maximum of fifteen minutes, by motorists who do not intend to stay for any lengthy period of time at the terminal. Motorists may also use this area for free. Vehicles parked at the entrance to the terminals may not be allowed to be left unattended. This is for reasons of safety and security, and generally the case at all European airports. Some larger airports don’t even allow curbside parking anymore.

Passengers arriving in their own vehicles will need to pay for their parking at the airport, although the first half an hour in the car park is provided for free. Thereafter, charges are made generally by the hour, up until twenty-four hours of parking. The maximum daily rate charged for four days of parking is €10.80, and each day after the four-day period will incur a charge of up to €8.65. At most airports, the parking rates are posted at the entrance of the parking lots. Passengers will receive a parking ticket upon entry to the parking lot, which should be kept safe, and then used at the automatic payment machines located at the car park. Motorists should only pay for their parking once ready to leave the airport, as only a few minutes are allowed in order to exit the area. The payment machines at the airport accept major credit cards or cash, and can provide change if it is needed.

Disabled persons, and drivers, will find that Ibiza Airport has a range of facilities to suit their requirements. Within the terminal, there are specially adapted elevators that provide access to the upper floor level of the building, and adequate toilet facilities in all the public toilet areas. There are also payphones that can easily be used by a person in a wheelchair. A number of conveniences are also provided for hard of hearing passengers, and for individuals with sight impairment. In the parking lot of IBZ, and alongside the terminal building, there are reserved parking spaces for disabled drivers. The spaces are also located to provide as convenient access to the terminal as possible. It is wise when using these spaces to always display your disabled parking permit/badge, so that no unnecessary arguments arise.

Passengers departing from Ibiza who do not wish to drive their own vehicle can arrive by bus or taxi. Unfortunately, there are no railway services on the island of Ibiza. Buses travel from the center of Ibiza Town, and taxis can be used from any location. Both services provide a safe and efficient way to reach the airport. In general, motorists find the parking at the airport to be adequate, and to be reasonably priced.
